As per my observation hikers always need be well prepared for a broad range of temperatures and weather conditions once hiking in the Great Mountains. As you know, temperatures in the mountains typically fluctuate.
There is far difference between day and night weather. If not properly prepared, a sudden storm could result in lots of anxiety for you. You will be feeling worse if you are for hikes without most essentials, I’ve pulled together a few checklists which should follow to every hiker.
Map and Compass
You must need to carry a map of the area where you will go for hiking and learn how to find your location on it based on the landmarks and trail junctions marked on it.Just learn how to use a compass? Here I can give a suggestion , if you learn to find out the north first, then everything will be easy, and you can figure out the others. You can bring GPS receivers & a cell phone if you want them, but nothing is more reliable than a map or compass.
Sunglass is a must. Take polarized lenses for the best, glare-free view. Don’t trench them on winter days — you could go snow-blind. Also carry a hat, sunscreen, lip balm. For sun protection, either keep your skin covered or coat it with sunscreen. If your skin is very sensitive to the sun, you should also consider wearing special sun-proof clothing.
You should get dressed to match current and predicted conditions, then pack at least one more layer if necessary. You need to take extra clothing and insulation you bring on a hike depends on whether you’re walking near a city or far. Should consider the average day and night temperature, and whether there’s a chance you may get stuck outdoors at night. Jacket, sweater, hat as well as gloves along just in case.
Once you go hiking, this is necessary to bring a few first aid supplies along whatever it’s for you or other people you are walking with. This is the best option to carry a small first aid kit.
You can add some other things also. Here’s some idea of first aid kits:
- Adhesive bandages
- Antibiotic ointment
- Antiseptic Trauma/Burn dressings
Take waterproof matches or waterproof lighter, which is evident (for understanding fuel levels). Bring too.
Repair Kit and Tools
Take a knife and duct tape. Add perfect repair materials for anything that needs to be set up/taken down. Carry a headlamp and extra batteries.
Hiking is a workout, and you need to eat to keep your body going if you’re hiking for more than a few hours or a day. So it’s a great plan to bring along healthy snacks with a right balance of carbohydrate, protein, and fat like candy bars or a sandwich. Also take plenty of water and energy drink.
You should prepare for emergency shelter like a blanket, sleeping bag, and tent. Which all protect you from insects, cold or some ferocious animals.
Never wear any cotton clothing which is partially made out of cotton, rayon, Tencel, or model since it is very slow to dry if it becomes wet and protect poorly. Always wear synthetic or wool clothing as it’s far safer.
So assume you have gathered knowledge about hiking checklist already by screaming my list. You can easily rely on this as these are the standard and essential list for every hiker and no can ignore any single item.
